Interior Design Trend Report 2024
With the New Year comes time to talk trends and where we see design headed. Each year brings fresh ideas and changes, and the same happens when looking at Interior Design. There is a lot to look forward to this next year including what is transitioning in and out of style.
The great thing about interior trends is that they have a MUCH longer life span than fashion trends! Here are my top four trends for 2024:
01. Aesthetic: OLD MONEY
Quiet Luxury or that Old Money Aesthetic was super popular last year with Sophie Richie being the IT GIRL of the fashion and influencer world. We see this style continuing to play a larger role in interiors. I would describe this style as Tennis Style meets Ralph Lauren Catalog. It would be like if James Bond played Polo. If Gossip Girl was set at a British Country Club. It’s inspired by warm worn leathers, antique rugs, and moodier spaces.
This interior design style creates a traditional yet moody feel to your space with hints of luxury. This new style goes beyond just decor, including furniture, lighting and architectural details. You can bring this vibe into your home using plaid pillows, ornately framed art pieces, or a thrifted dresser. If you’re up for a bigger change, you can apply wall moldings, look for upholstered furniture with a more tailor look or paint a space a moodier jewel tone.
02. Material: CHROME
Chrome is not a new material in the furniture and home world, but it has taken a back seat to copper and golds in the past few years. Chrome furniture popped up in the 1960s with tubular steel and is defined by its shape with rounded edges, chunky shapes and literal tube shapes. We see this trend popping up in 2024 in sleek furniture lines, decor pieces and kitchen and bath fixtures.
You’ll be seeing silver tones, bold chromes and lots of mixing metals including their finishes. It’s not about going all over chrome, it’s incorporating it in small touches to add in a reflective element, focal point or a topic of conversation. Small decor pieces bring everything together, just be sure to balance it out with some warmer materials or textures. It’s going to be a heavy metal aesthetic this year.
03. Color: REDDISH BROWN
For the past year, we’ve seen pops of reds and browns all over the place. From Cowgirl Copper Hair to Aritzia’s popular Brown Leather Pants, Reddish Browns are taking the color world by storm. We see this color transitioning into Interior Design through accent pieces and textiles. If you’re feeling extra bold, color drench your entire space in these rich tones.
This color feels new and fresh in interior spaces! A Reddish Brown is the perfect color if you fall somewhere in between styles, it pairs beautifully and a base for pops of color in a space.
04. Feeling: CURATED PIECES
Gone are the days of ultra minimalism and hiding away your collections. People are wanting to view homes that have charm and character that happens through a lived in space. It’s the year for your pieces to shine and start conversations about what your personal style is. It seems that Tik Tok culture has driven people away from the trends and more into personal touches and curated pieces. This style is being pushed by a desire to be more sustainable and consume less. You can achieve this look by contrasting styles, color drenched spaces and antiques or thrifted decor.
Cluttercore is a word that’s been tossed around to describe having open storage and leaning into the maximalist personality style. If that isn’t, your look you can still achieve this lived in feel by displaying your coffee table books open to a beautiful page or layering throw blankets in a more tussled look rather than perfectly folded. It’s all about leaning into pushing your creativity and showing a bit more of who you are.
There are always those classic Interior Design elements that we will never loose sight. The best part about new trends is you can take what you love and leave what you don’t!
As Always,
TayJo
